Description
Take Brittany is a collection of cross-curricular units, promoting intercultural understanding in KS1 and KS2, through a specific focus on Southern Brittany in France. This resource is designed to be used flexibly and the units could form the basis of a Breton Culture week or be integrated into a scheme of work. Each unit follows a four-step process encouraging pupils to reflect on their own culture as well as learning about the Breton culture.
There are eight units, each focusing on an aspect of Breton culture with a creative piece of work as an end outcome. Each unit includes step-by-step teaching notes, a PowerPoint slideshow and a video. The videos introduce aspects of Breton culture. At the end of each film pupils from Ecole Sanquer, a school in Brittany, complete a creative activity which can then be re-created. There are plenty of opportunities for French language learning.
The Units include Travelling to Brittany – An introductory unit, Open the Door, An Artist’s View of Pont Aven, A Taste of Brittany, Pottery of Quimper, Standing Stones of Brittany, Market Day, A Festival of Music and Dance
