Children love stories – so why not use them to spark their interest in mathematics?
For many teachers finding a relevant and interesting context for mathematical learning provides a challenge. The use of picture books is one possible solution; allowing children to make choices about the maths they use, and to develop their mathematical thinking.
Story Maths: using picture books in the primary classroom highlights over 40 picture books; suitable for different ages of children and focusing on different concepts in the maths curriculum, with suggested questions and activities for use in the primary classroom. Some of the books have a specific mathematical theme running through them; but for many of the books, the maths is not immediately obvious!
